IPA Educators Complete Erasmus+ Course on Environmental Education in Finland

IPA educators Noemy Croes and Milly Koolman during the Environmental Education course in Helsinki, Finland

As part of the Erasmus+ programme, IPA/CDPC educators Noemy Croes MA and Milly Koolman MEd successfully completed the international course Environmental Education in Finland: The Eco-Social Approach, held in Helsinki, Finland, from 27 April to 2 May 2026.

The course explored the Finnish approach to environmental education, with a strong focus on sustainability, active citizenship, systems thinking, responsible consumer behaviour, and experiential learning. Throughout the week, participants engaged in interactive workshops, outdoor learning experiences, study visits, and collaborative discussions with educators from across Europe. These activities provided valuable insights into innovative educational practices that empower educators to foster responsible, environmentally conscious, and active citizens.

Participation in this international professional development course was made possible through the IPA Erasmus+ KA131 mobility programme.

The knowledge and skills gained during the course will now be shared within the IPA community and integrated into the professional development programmes offered by the Centro pa Desaroyo Profesional Continuo (CDPC). Particular attention will be given to strengthening the existing Foundation of 21st Century Teaching course by incorporating principles of eco-social education, sustainability, and active citizenship.

The experience also offers exciting opportunities to further explore the educational potential of the IPA Syntropic Farm, creating meaningful connections between environmental education and experiential learning. In collaboration with colleagues and schools on Aruba, IPA aims to continue promoting innovative, future-oriented education that prepares learners to contribute to a more sustainable society.

Through international collaboration and continuous professional development, IPA remains committed to strengthening the quality of education and preparing educators for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
